Michigan Humane announced the transition of its Grosfeld Veterinary Clinic at the Mackey Center for Animal Care to the only low-cost urgent care center in the city of Detroit. The clinic will also offer high-volume spay and neuter services. This change reflects the growing demand for urgent pet care in Detroit.

Michigan Humane Achieves Record-Setting
Food Distribution

Michigan Humane announced today it distributed more than 2.3 million pounds of food into the metro Detroit community in 2024, a record-breaking quantity for the organization and a 45% increase over 2023’s 1.63 million pounds given out. Along with more than 75,000 pounds of needed hard goods, 2,792,432 pounds of pet food and supplies went into family homes last year.

Fifty million pets in the U.S. experience a lack of access to even basic veterinary care. Rising costs and other barriers mean these pets struggle to access services such as spay/neuter procedures, vaccinations and critical medical and preventative care. With as many as 70% of households now including pets, this issue affects families in nearly every community. Michigan Humane and PetSmart Charities are working together to make veterinary care accessible.

Creating healthy, happy families through pet adoption is at the core of Michigan Humane’s mission and with the support of the Mike Morse Law Firm, the organization’s official adoption partner, families in metro Detroit will have a chance to find new companions at the inaugural “Meet Your Best Friend at the Shelter” adoption event. Taking place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland, the event will have more than 150 animals available for on-site adoptions.
