What Service Looks Like at Michigan Humane
Depending on availability and your location of choice, volunteers can serve in a variety of ways. A few examples include partnering with our staff to clean animal kennels, delivering pet food and supplies to families in need, distributing pet food at our drive-up pantries, cleaning dishes and laundry at the shelter, giving animals time out their kennel, supporting us at community events, and more.
Allowing you to complete service hours on a schedule that works for you is important to us. To consider your application, we ask for a minimum commitment of 20 service hours. Volunteers can choose to complete their hours by serving:
- A minimum of 2-3 hours per week
- A maximum of 12 hours per week
- No more than 6 hours of service in one day
Shift Availability
Most volunteer shifts are available on weekdays between 9AM – 6PM. We also offer weekend availability, but shifts are limited. If interested, please fill out an application to get started or email us with questions.

Completing Service Hours for School
Michigan Humane welcomes youth volunteers between the ages of 14 and 17 to serve onsite or at our events with an adult over the age of 25. Applications are required for both the youth and adult volunteers before they can begin completing service hours. We also require adults to accompany and supervise youth volunteers during their shifts.
