Halloween is a fun time for families. Costumes, candy, and parties are exciting for both kids and adults, and including your pet in those events can be fun too. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe while enjoying the holiday together.

  • Costumes for our pets may be cute but they can be stressful too, so start small. If you’d like to try a costume, start small- a bandana or festive harness/collar
  • If your pet is comfortable in those things, you can try a sweater/tshirt.  If your pet is still okay, you can try something more elaborate but make sure it fits well (not too tight or too loose)
  • Keep an eye on their body language- they should still be loose and wiggly, not stiff or hiding away. If they are, remove the item and go back to something smaller collar (even if it clashes with their costume)
  • Nighttime events, including trick or treating, can be super scary for our pets. Consider leaving them at home or have a way to safely leave any situation your pet finds stressful or scary.
  • Hosting a party or welcoming trick or treaters? Your pet might be overwhelmed so make sure to provide them with a safe space to relax in, such as a crate or back room where they can enjoy soft music, a comfy bed and nothing going bump in the night.
