As a supporter of Michigan Humane, we’re sharing an important decision we’ve made to best align our resources to have the greatest impact on the people and pets of the communities we serve.

Michigan Humane will be concluding its farm animal care at Abraham Ranch by December 31st, 2024, and the ranch will be operated as an independent entity.

Michigan Humane opened the Center for Farm Animal Care in fall of 2021 and we have since welcomed 195 animals into our care to be rehomed. Our team has done a fantastic job of caring for these animals, but we have had to rely heavily on outside experts with many of the animals we bring in. While we do have some internal expertise in these areas, they are spread thin with all our organizational demands. The resources needed to provide farm animals with the proper medical care have simply not proven sustainable.

We’re incredibly grateful for our team at Abraham Ranch. They are focused on seeking forever homes for our remaining animals at the ranch. Our relationship with the Abrahams remains strong as Katie continues in her role as Michigan Humane Board Chair.

This will be a new and exciting chapter for Abraham Ranch. While continuing to care for and rehome farm animals, their 140 acres of pastures, ponds, coops and barns will host educational and community events that focus on farm animals, nature and the environment and the role they play in our lives. Their facilities will also be available for corporate or private events. We look forward to supporting and collaborating with them now and into the future.
