On Friday, September 27 four Michigan Humane Animal Search and Rescuers were deployed to North Carolina to help with relief efforts after Hurricane Helene devastated the area. The crew has spent days getting food and water to families in need, checking evacuated homes for stranded animals, and helping where we can be the most effective.
“The team has been busy, and the need is great in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene,” said Michigan Humane President and CEO Matt Pepper. “Yesterday, they responded to homes where the pets and the owners were separated. Providing critical care, resources, and reuniting pets with their families. Today, they are leading 22 horses across a river where the bridge had collapsed. This could potentially take a couple days and could be a very dangerous effort.”
Over the weekend, shelters in the Asheville, NC area were left without electricity and running water. Our Animal Search and Rescue team trains year-round to be ready during a crisis. We are proud of their hard work to reunite families, get supplies to those in need, and bring relief to the families of North Carolina.
Our crew continues their work and you can help Michigan Humane be prepared for future emergencies with a donation.
