We all know how important the human-animal bond is, and just how impactful it can be on the lives of everyone involved. We also know how important pets are to human health. That’s why Michigan Humane is focused on a program called Companion Animals for Humane Support, an initiative in partnership with Team Suzy to bring comfort and companionship of pets to patients suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia- related diseases and their caregivers. Through this program, Michigan Humane will provide companion animal adoption matchmaking services, connecting clients referred to Michigan Humane by Team Suzy with thoroughly evaluated shelter pets from our shelter animal population (canine, feline and other), connecting people with pets whose temperament, behavior and activity needs fit well within the clients’ lifestyle and capabilities, provide no cost adoptions, adoption support for 90 days after the pet’s adoption and assist in rehoming the animals (for the duration of the pet’s life) should the patient/caretaker find they are no longer able to.

We are so grateful to our supporters and partners who make essential programs like this possible, and we’d like to share a special thank you with our amazing friend, Steve Kiwicz, for his generous commitment to this program that will change lives forever!
